Sir John Whitehead
Honorary President

CV: Sir John Whitehead GCMG CVO is a former British Ambassador to Japan. After his retirement from the Diplomatic Service, he served on the boards of, or as a senior advisor to, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Asset Management, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), Sanwa Bank, Serco, BPB Industries, Cadbury Schweppes, Guinness and Inchcape. Also as a consultant to Cable & Wireless he was involved in Japan's first contested takeover bid (for IDC against NTT). He was most recently Chairman of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Trust Bank (Japan). Sir John was educated at Hertford College Oxford. Sir John Whitehead recently retired as Chairman of the Japaninvest Group.

Julie Craddock
Non Executive Chairman

Julie Craddock was previously Managing Director and Head of Equity Capital Markets for Asia for Credit Suisse First Boston based in Hong Kong. Prior to CSFB she was Head of Equity Capital Markets for BZW in Hong Kong, having started her investment banking career with Morgan Stanley in London. She is currently also a non-executive director of the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investing in Asia. Julie has a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Exeter. Julie recently accepted the position of Chairman from Sir John Whitehead, who has retired.

Michael Thomas
Non Executive Director

Michael joined Japaninvest Group as a non-executive director in early 2009. Michael has been involved in Japanese equities for 34 years. He launched the Japan Unit Trust for Martin Currie in 1989 which he then managed highly succesfully until his retirement from the firm. He remains a non executive director of the Martin Currie Pacific Trust and of Polar Capital in London.

Jane Dumeresque ACA
Non Executive Director

Jane joined Japaninvest Group as a non-executive director in 2011. Jane brings signficant experience as the former Group Finance Director of Syndicate Asset Management plc (now Ashcourt Rowan Plc), which is listed on the AIM market. Prior to Syndicate Asset Management, Jane had a career in investment management and corporate finance, and is a qualified chartered accountant. 

Rupert Eastwood ACA
Chief Executive Officer

CV: Co-founder of Japaninvest, Rupert worked as an investment banker with Jardine Fleming in Hong Kong from 1995. From 1998 he assumed responsibility for Japan. Rupert trained as a corporate financier with Samuel Montagu in London from 1992. He holds an ACA from Price Waterhouse and an MA in Engineering and Philosophy from Christ's College, Cambridge. Rupert is a keen off-piste/ heli-skier and sailor and has made several transatlantic crossings. He also collects Chinese art.

Mark Burges Watson
Chief Operating Officer

CV: Co-founder of Japaninvest, Mark has 20 years of Japanese equity sales experience gained at JP Morgan, Robert Fleming and BZW, based in London and Switzerland. Mark has an MA in History from St John's College Cambridge and also read Economic History at Collegio Ghislieri Pavia University, Italy. Mark is a keen off-piste /heli-skier and free diver / spearfisher, and is interested in Italian wines.

Peter Goodfellow ACA
Chief Financial Officer

CV: Peter joined Japaninvest from BDO LLP, the global audit firm, where he was a senior audit manager in the London financial services group specialising in advising regulated firms. Peter holds an ACA from the Institute of Charted Accountants in England and Wales; a CISI Diploma for Regulation and Compliance from the Institute for Securities and Investment; an MA in Business Management from Kingston Business School; and an BSc from the University of Birmingham.
